TR-LAX - Drum Machines
TR-LAX - Drum Machines
CLASSIC DRUM MACHINES + LA MAGIC
No drum machines have been sampled more than the Roland TR-808 and TR-909. So why do it again? Because the magic lies in the processing...
We took six classic drum machines and brought them to a Hollywood hit factory responsible for numerous Billboard top-10 hits (by artists like Jason Derulo and Selena Gomez). Here, we ran every sound of every machine through the same individual processing that a top-5 track would get.
Start your next production with the building blocks of a Billboard hit!

DEMO: The original six machines vs. TR-LAX
Below is a 1:1 audio comparison between the original "TR" drum machines and the TR-LAX pack. No additional processing was used (except for some gentle peak limiting on both tracks).
Adding more magic to the classics
The six Roland TR-X0Xs of the 1980's are arguably the most legendary drum machines ever produced. From the pop and hip hop legacy of the TR-808 to the dance legacy of the TR-909. This also makes them some of the most sampled instruments ever. So why do it all over again?
Because sampling the machines is only half the job done - the real magic comes with the processing.
Our curator for this pack is a mix engineer and ghost producer at a Hollywood hit factory responsible for a double-digit number of Billboard top-10 hits, including a recent number one. For contractual reasons he remains anonymous - as any ghost producer would.
We asked our curator to create a sound pack for Analogue Candy with the following challenge:
"Take the six classic "TR" drum machines - and treat the sounds like you were mixing for a pop production".
And so he did. Every individual sound of all six machines was processed separately, and carefully, through the best hardware money can buy. Here, the drum hits were treated with all the dirty pop tricks and cheats of our curator - to sound as crisp, punchy and modern as ever.
For most sounds - and especially kicks and snares - several versions were created to present a full palette of what these machines are capable of. For instance, the pack contains nine 808 kicks. Also, our curator has given you the choice between wet and dry versions (with or without reverb) for most of the sounds.
